Vice President of Intellectual Property at Mammoth Biosciences

For the role of Vice President of Intellectual Property, we are seeking an experienced IP counsel with specific expertise in biotechnology patents and overall background in intellectual property law, including complex contract negotiation and drafting, as well as the capability to analyze and assess developing scientific progress. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of fundamental patent law principles and be able of organizing intellectual property strategies for emerging technologies, such as in the fields of protein discovery, gene editing, and molecular diagnostics.    


    • Manage Mammoth’s intellectual property strategy and portfolio 
    • Identify patentable subject matter and lead drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications globally 
    • Work closely with R&D teams to identify patentable subject matter
    • Review and advise on intellectual property provisions in strategic collaboration and license agreements 
    • Provide legal advice and counsel to research and commercial teams and gain a high-level of the industry in conjunction with a detailed understanding of Mammoth Bioscience’s and our  competitors’ technologies 
    • Conduct IP due diligence, technology assessments, and provide direction to strategic alliances and licensing, ranging from broad strategic objectives to day-to-day laboratory advancements 
    • Participate in contracting initiatives, including overseeing the drafting, negotiating and execution of all legal agreements relating to the company’s intellectual property  
    • Serve as counsel for licensing transactions and ensure contract compliance, including royalty and other payment obligations 


    • J.D. is required with advanced degree in life sciences and membership in the Patent Bar
    • 3-5+ years as in-house or outside counsel in the biotech or pharmaceutical fields, preferably in a role serving as a business legal partner to corporate executives
    • General knowledge of other corporate law matters, such as employee relations, non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, etc.
    • Attentive project management skills and prior demonstration of a proactive approach in securing patent protection worldwide for fundamental inventions
    • Experience drafting, negotiating and executing complex licenses with US and international agencies 


    • Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and analytical skills 
    • Proven leadership skills, as well as a strong client service focus and the ability to work both independently and in teams to achieve complex goals 
    • Ability to work efficiently, to prioritize workflow, to meet demanding deadlines, and to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment
